Night-time Photography Walk in Scullin (spooky edition)

29 October 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Join experienced professional photographer Emily Blenkin on a photography walk around Scullin at night, thanks to Scullin Community Group.
Photography walks give us the chance to slow down and truly appreciate our surrounds, share the beauty in the everyday with those around us and be inspired by creating art in a group. Photographers of every age, experience and ability are welcome to join. Bring whatever device you have to take photos on – phones are welcome! Emily will be on hand to give advice and encouragement. Kids are very welcome.
On Saturday evening we’ll experiment with nightime photography around the Scullin shops and on the oval. You’ll learn the basics of taking photos at night, long exposures and light painting in a very relaxed and fun atmosphere. You do not need fancy equipment to do this (but if you have a DSLR definitely bring it along!)- everything is achievable on a smart phone. Bring whatever you take photos on, and we can work it out.
You’ll also need to bring some other things:
– a torch, or lots of torches if you have more than one. You could also hunt around your house for glow sticks, sparklers, battery lamps… the more sources of light to play with the better
– a tripod if you have one. If you don’t, don’t worry we’ll make it work!
– make sure your device is fully charged. If you have a camera that has a manual mode that’s brilliant.
– if you’re using your smartphone, check that there is a manual setting in your camera. If there’s not you can download an app for it. I’m pretty sure Adobe Lightroom is free, but see what turns up in your app store.
If you’re reading this thinking “I have no idea what she’s talking about is this too advanced for me” don’t worry – it’s not rocket science, just turn up with a torch and we’ll work it out. You’ll come away with some really cool images and some great techniques to play with.
If you’re reading this thinking ” this is all so basic are me and my DSLR going to be bored?” still come! This is a really fun way to stretch your creativity with a fun technical exercise.
